The latest Invest of the season is chugging west northwest through the mid Atlantic and could pose a real threat to the Caribbean later this week. The system should reach the Lesser Antilles by tomorrow night- possibly as a tropical storm. This morning the NHC gave 2 day and 5 day development odds of 60% AND 90% respectively. It is looking like we will have our 13th named storm of the season soon.
It is still waaaaay too early to tell whether 97 will have any impact on the U.S. The Weather Channel hurricane expert Michael Lowry, summed this up in a recent blog post “”The science tells us there’s no skill in seven-to-ten day forecasts of tropical systems that haven’t formed (like invests).”
So it looks like we have some hurricane watch duty ahead of us 🙂
Even though we are officially into fall, that doesn’t mean we are “out of the woods” in regards to hurricane season. - 21% of landfalling U.S. hurricanes have occurred in October and November
- The most common formation areas for named storms in October are the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and the western Atlantic
