First Named Storm of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season?

By July 1, 2014February 3rd, 2020No Comments

A new area of disturbed weather is churning off the Atlantic coast of Florida about 100 miles southeast of Cape Canaveral. While this system is only at Tropical Depression status, it is becoming more organized and has a good chance of reaching Tropical Storm status in the near term. In fact, Tropical Storm watches are in effect now for the east coast of Florida from Fort Pierce north to just south of Flagler Beach.

Most of the reliable models are in agreement on the path of this system, but there is a good deal of uncertainty about the forecast for development. Predictions are being offered up for anything from Tropical Storm formation later today to Category 1 Hurricane towards the end of the week and everything in between. One thing everyone seems to agree upon – heavy rainfall is likely for the eastern coast of Florida starting today as well as for coastal Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina as the week progresses.

Will we see our first hurricane of the season by Independence Day? Arthur- we’ll be waiting for you!
