May Weather Mishmash

By May 15, 2017February 3rd, 2020No Comments

Ah, spring is here and with it comes thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail… and snow? Yes, snow.
A nasty round of storms swept from the South Plains of Texas to the Great Lakes yesterday causing at least two fatalities and dozens of injuries. There were 29 tornadoes reported across Wisconsin, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas, which are still being confirmed by the NWS. Of course, where there’s tornadoes, there’s typically hail and this system brought plenty of that too. Large hail was reported across the same swath adding insult to injury. You can check out all of yesterday’s storm reports here http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/ .

Unfortunately, there will be little reprieve as these same areas are forecast to see more severe thunderstorms in the days ahead. The Upper Midwest, which got blasted on Monday is set to get hit again today. Tomorrow the danger swings back to Kansas, Oklahoma and northwest Texas with more tornadoes and hail expected.
Meanwhile in the Rockies… Snowfall has already started and tomorrow the front will move into the higher elevations of Wyoming and the northern Colorado high country bringing heavy snow. On Friday, Denver is due for a dose of the white stuff- making the latest snow event in 42 years.
All that’s needed now to complete this strange weather potpourri is a hurricane… But we’ve got at least a few more weeks for that- right?!?
